Bishops’ House is a small museum with some rooms made out in jacobean style and others with cabinets of artefacts and information boards.  The house is also a beautiful Grade II* building and for many visitors the experience of seeing the building itself is the highlight of their visit.  Young families tend to spend between half an hour and an hour in the house before heading towards the playground in the park. Those with an interest in history or historic buildings can easily spend over an hour looking around.

Being located at the top of leafy Meersbrook Park provides one of the finest views over Sheffield just a few metres away from the house. Bishops’ House is also on the route of  Sheffield Round Walk and walkers will often pop in for a look around.

How to get here

Bishops’ House is located approximately two miles to the south of Sheffield city centre, by the top entrance to Meersbrook Park in Norton Lees.  Long referred to as being on Norton Lees lane, Bishops’ House actually lies at the junction of Lees Hall Ave and Lees Nook.

Directions
By Public Transport

If travelling by bus you can use this route planner to help.  Routes suggested by the planner will aim for Lees Hall Avenue, alongside the house.  If you don't mind a walk up through Meersbrook Park, you might get more choice of routes by choosing Heeley Retail Park on Chesterfield Road as your destination and from there walking up Beeton Road and through Meersbrook Park (approx 10 to 15 mins).

By Car

If using a satnav please aim for Lees Hall Avenue, S8 9NA. There is usually space by the top of the gates to  Meersbrook Park. The area is residential with ample roadside parking in the vicinity.

Wheelchair access

Bishops' House is unfortunately not wheelchair friendly. Accessibility is restricted to downstairs and not all wheelchairs can move freely around the downstairs area, with a step into the front door and another step into the parlour. Please feel free to contact us so we can give more specific information targeted to your requirements.
