"You Choose"

We have succesfully bid for a £2000 grant which will enable us to take the first important steps of an archaeological and historical survey of the site.  The local community will be invited to join in for a weekend of activities with Sheffield University's Archaeological Department and Heeley City Farm's Community Heritage Officer.  The grant was decided at a public meeting where people voted for their favourite projects.

We had a very busy stall, featuring 3 display boards, plus a video of the house and suitable music running throughout. People stopped and discussed our bid with several signing up for membership. We are honoured to have been selected ahead of some very worthwhile alternative bids. It's a shame the system can't reward all bidders, but we are delighted to have been selected.

Outcomes
The results will be used to produce a detailed report which will be the first step towards our long term aim of helping to preserve this unique 15th Century Tudor farmhouse for future generations. All the results will be made available to the public through a public display, printed documentation and an evening talk following the heritage weekend.

accepting the awardBishops House itself will be open to the public during the weekend and there will additional family activities such as a drawing competition and building a card model of Bishops House. This activity weekend will be free and open to everyone. It will be widely promoted on the internet and in the local media.

This will be wonderful opportunity to raise the profile of Bishops House locally and introduce the Friends of Bishops House (and the house itself) to a wider public. It will also use give the opportunity for members of the community to learn new skills and to use professionally recognised techniques to actively engage in the history of this amazing building.

The Friends of Bishops House will encourage young people and families who use Meersbrook Park on a regular basis to take part in this event, to build community links and to help to make the area around Bishops House a better and safer environment. The bid has the full support of the Norton Lees Residents Association.
